The greatest Canadian heavy metal band is coming back – and if you don’t know who it is by now, you don’t know metal.
Anvil – the country’s foremost metal trio – is returning to Vancouver for the first time since last year’s late-night performance at the Biltmore. The alliterate album titlers are set to perform at the Rickshaw Theatre on Sunday, bringing with them Titan’s Eve on their CD release, as well as Skullhammer and Dead Asylum.
Steve “Lips” Kudlow and Robb Reiner (not to be confused with This Is Spinal Tap director Rob Reiner) will be in full force, as usual, living up to the name remade famous in 2008’s award-winning Anvil! The Story of Anvil.
The two of them, along with new bassist Sal Italiano, will likely perform such Anvil favourites as “March of the Crabs”, “Metal on Metal”, “Winged Assassin”, “Blood on the Ice”, “666” and “Forged in Fire” – not to mention new cuts from recent albums This is Thirteen and Juggernaut of Justice.
Anvil always put on a top-notch metal show, no matter how big the stage is. Whatever venue they enter, they get the crowd’s adrenaline pumped all the way through, and the energy never flatlines. If you haven’t seen Anvil, you can hardly call yourself metal. (Or Canadian, for that matter.)
Tickets are on sale through Scrape Records, located at 323 East Broadway, for $20 each plus service charges, or $22 at the door.
